So, I went to Spokane this weekend, which was interesting. Naturally, some of the pictures-of-the-day are from there, including the remains of my dad's breakfast. Sunday morning I took him out to the pancake house down the street from where they live. I haven't been since I stopped eating wheat, but they have AMAZING potato pancakes, so I was all set anyway.
There are also a few shots here from various things at work, and! Very important! The shot of my success at shuffleboard. My mother taught me how to play. I beat her at the first round, she won the second (though she had to fight for it) and then we teamed up to play my dad & his friend and beat them three times in a row. Oh yes. That shot is my winning point on the last game, and what you can't see is that half of it is hanging off of the table. Not that we were in danger of losing at that point anyway, but it was still a pretty sweet victory.
I am way behind posting stuff here! I went to Spokane this weekend to visit family, and that threw off everything. I'll post the photos of the day in two batches of seven.
Today is my first day back at work since we were let go early last Wednesday. It is kind of crazy. Between the weather and being sick, this is only my fifth day of work this year!
I had meant to introduce a project last Friday that half of you know about already, but I left my camera cord at work and so I'm going to start it now, and I think update it here on Mondays. It's a photo-a-day project (that I started on Monday the 8th, what with being dead of plague for the first week of the year) and if I can get through the whole year without it becoming solely knitting-and-rats I will call it a success. Actually, if I can get through the year at ALL it'll be a success.
Earlier this month I finally bought a camera, and naturally I wanted to knit a bag for it.
...
Well, I thought that was a natural second step. I seem to be the only one, though. My coworkers thought it was hilarious. I found a skull-and-crossbones motif online and decided that I could just make it up as I went along. It actually worked. I'm amazed.
So I picked up mercerized cotton in the three colors, along with a fat
quarter of fabric for the lining, swatched a bit, and got to it.
It went pretty well, I think, for my first Fair Isle project. It's far from perfect, but it's recognizable and it doesn't have any tremendous tension issues.
The issues showed up in knitting the back, of all things. Note to self: pay attention to your knitting.
Also, pictorial evidence that blocking is your friend.
Finished, with i-cord drawstring. Well, I do still need to do the lining, once I unearth my sewing machine. I'm also thinking a little plastic canvas for structure might not be a bad idea. But still! Not bad, and definitely useable.
