[In which there is carlessness]

Comments

I can't believe people give you crap about not having a car *in Seattle*. It's not like you live in sprawly-ass Los Angeles where no car = no life!

you certainly can't drive for that.

You certainly can't. $1,100 would barely cover a year's worth of gas for my car!

I am actually a little surprised that it's comment-worthy, given where you live. I think generally the default position in Toronto is assumption that you don't have a car, at least among people who actually live *in* Toronto, and who are within 10 years of my age. I was actually out on the weekend with a couple, neither of whom even have their licence, and a couple of my co-workers don't either.
Well, it would be harder if I didn't live where I do. But I live here for a reason. I went to an all-staff meeting about six months ago, and they asked how many people drove and how many people carpooled (as corporate had requested people do that). It didn't even occur to them to ask if anyone took the bus. I think I was the only one!
The default here is definitely not carlessness, for all we pretend to be a green city. Even when I was in college where you seriously did not need one, most people did. Crazy.
